From some dude named Garth George in New Zealand:
…men and women are different physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It astounds me that in this age in which knowledge of the makeup of the human being is greater than at any time in history, we will not concede that men and women are genetically programmed for differing roles.*
Now, this sounds kinda familiar. What was that advice column thing I was cheerfully mocking the other day…oh yeah!
…women should never, ever pursue a man. Instead [wait] for the man to initiate and plan dates…If the woman is always the one calling, she will never know if he is really interested in her or if it’s just convenient for him. She may find herself questioning the relationship every step of the way. Men simply aren’t programmed to think like that and therefore are better suited to the chase…
New rule: Nobody is allowed to use the phrase “genetic programming” or any related phrases harking back to that concept and be taken remotely seriously unless he or she can, right now (no Googling!) define for me what a gene is, and no bullshit copouts like “the basic building blocks of life!” either–if your definition can be stretched to include any other scientific and/or philosophical or theological concepts besides genes, it ain’t one. You are also required to know the definition of any and all words used in the definition, and you are not allowed to use any part or variation of the word “gene” to define a gene.
Go!
::crickets chirping::
*He has somehow managed to link this to abortion; I read his article three times and still couldn’t figure out how he got from point A to point M or N. I wish better luck to anybody else that makes the attempt.
It’s odd, isn’t it, how those millions of years on the savannah selected for one sex being genetically programmed to do white-collar jobs and the other to scrub toilets for free. But them’s the cold hard facts and we simply have to face up to them.
Fact: filling out a TPS report uses exactly the same body part as killing a mammoth and grilling up some mammoth stakes. That body part is the penis.
Fact: the vagina is perfectly adapted for holding a scrub brush.
It’s biology people!
In fact, the Human Genome Project found this sequence on the Y chromosome:
…GCTAATCAGTACTACGATCATACGGTAMAKEMEADMANSANDWICHCGTACATCGACAGTCACGATCA…
Can’t argue with “Science”.
You’re all bad.
I wonder what gene it is that makes only men suitable for collecting garbage or fishing for king crab.
That would be the Atlas gene. Men with this gene on their Y chromosomes (you can tell cause it’s bigger, like their penis) are genetically programmed to have expensive white collar jobs and be captains of industry, while men without it might as well be *gasp* women!
“while men without it might as well be *gasp* women!”
No, can’t be – if they were women, they’d be in cubicle jobs, surrounded by stuffed animals and potted plants, taking shit from some idiot at the end of the row..
An Atlas gene would put them into white collar jobs, and there aren’t many of those in the middle of the Bering Sea.
I think it’s that women are clearly deficient in the “adventuring gene”. The gene that tells guys to “laugh in the face of danger” and ignore things like “bad smells”- (that’s why women are always cleaning, can’t stand bad smells).
Or society just has really stupid ideas about gender roles.
No, no–women really DO have a “servile ass-wiping” gene that requires that all their shit jobs involve kowtowing profusely to others and doing their menial labor, preferably men’s, but another woman’s in a pinch.
….but the jobs men do that are shitty, they do out of a sense of adventure…or because they gain status from it.
Right. Gotcha.
Nope, no double standards or sexist assumptions here….move along folks.
Actually Fac, there are no sexist assumptions or double standards here–everybody on the thread, with the sole exception of you, has been MOCKING sexist assumptions and double standards. I recommend you follow suit rather than, say, being so humorless and strident.
Factory, do we need to implement a policy about ALWAYS doing a sarcasm tag? If it wasn’t perfectly obvious that every one thought these standards were foolish, let me clarify for you: everyone thinks these standards are foolish and ridiculous.
