And the weather was PERFECT!

…smoked turkey legs…the sword swallower…two-handed axe throwing…the maze…and DRESSING UP!

Pictures below the fold!

Chose “monk” costume himself. Also chose “monk staff” to go with it at the Festival, was informed that it was made of “sugar maple,” offended store proprietor by clearly not knowing or caring what that meant. Spent rest of trip chasing and swinging at brother with staff.

Repeatedly informed mother that he was “far too cool” to wear a costume to the Festival. Apparently not too cool to play with the wooden axes when he thought mother wasn’t looking nor aiming her camera phone at him. Bought axe and spent rest of trip fending off brother with it.

Clearly forgot that jesters are supposed to be “jolly.” Perhaps tired from chasing after sons and preventing them from decapitating innocent bystanders with “monk staff” and “axe he was supposed to be too cool to play with.”

Small voice from back seat during drive to Festival: “You look like a fop.”
Boyfriend, photographed: “Yeah? I bet you don’t even know what that means.”
Small voice from back seat: “It means dandy.”

Fall is so awesome. There’s something for everyone. My big thing this fall is introducing foreigners to haunted houses. I love the halloween season. I think I’ve lost the interest of the Hungarians (I’m told that waiting in lines is mostly an American/British thing, and they might not be able to look at queues as a necessary evil), but I’m pretty sure I can persuade Asians from nearly every part of Asia to drive a million hours to the haunted prison at the other end of the state.

This had nothing to do with medieval geek festivals, except that you reminded me that fall is awesome for everyone.

Ah, I love Ren Fests. I wish I would have enough time and money to go to the one this year. Halloween and a Mask Ball will have to be my backups.

Kyso, you can take the haunted prison tour in Moundsville, WV. It’s closer to you than clear across the state (if I’m remembering your location correctly, and if I’m not, it’s still worth a drive) and it’s pretty spooky.

I love your kids vocabulary, by the way. “Fop” and “dandy” are great words.

    :P “medieval geek festivals…”

They both do have great vocabularies! You seriously cannot talk too much at your kids, even when they’re babies–I think that and reading are where kids acquire their vocabularies, far more than school “vocabulary” tests–I’m seriously not sure where exactly he got “fop” and “dandy” from though. :)
