Lamb vs Lamb
Published by Quin September 8th, 2008 in Punkass! In comments, Elizabeth points out the Sarah Palin is not the only veep pick with a son headed to Iraq. Hey, I did not know that. I actually watched the first few minutes of Biden’s DNC speech, but I missed that part (as I’m assuming he brought it up at SOME point). I turned it off in disgust when Biden started going on about the travails ordinary Americans are facing trying to just keep their families warm in the winter blah blah blah. This from the same guy who spent years trying to push through the Bankruptcy Bill (”the nuclear bomb of class warfare“), finally succeeding in this bipartisan victory by joining forces with Bush in 2005.
A quick google of “Biden’s son”, after getting past the links about Hunter Biden (the one who MBNA paid big money to be a lobbyist with his dad), does indeed reveal the existence of Joseph R. “Beau” Biden, 39-year-old attorney general of Delaware, National Guard captain, and aspirant for the Delaware senate seat if his dad wins the VP spot.

In contrast to 18-year-old Track Palin, who “just happens” to be being deployed on September 11th, Beau Biden “just happens” to be scheduled for deployment on October 3rd. What’s so special about October 3rd, you ask? It’s the day after the only vice-presidential debate. So Biden can get choked up on camera and say, “why, my own sweet young boy is going to Iraq TOMORROW.”
In other words, the Republicans go for none-too-subtle symbolism; the Democrats go for a cheap point in a debate. But what else is new.

P.S. Oh, now I see. Turns out Beau Biden introduced his dad’s DNC speech. Since I watched daddy Biden’s speech on YouTube, it was without any context, so I didn’t know what Biden was tearfully going on about when he started the speech with:
You know, folks, my dad used to have an expression. He’d say, “A father knows he’s a success when he turns and looks at his son or daughter and know that they turned out better than he did.” I’m a success; I’m a hell of a success.
In typical Biden fashion, it ought to be heartwarming, but it just makes him sound full of himself.
I’m sorry, but it needs to be asked: Why do all her kids have such stupid names?
Why do YOU have such a stupid name? There’s plenty of meaty material to make fun of Sarah Palin with, without going places like that. Speaking purely defensively as a fellow stupidly-named person.
Not a Sarah Palin fan (at all) but I really like her kids names. They’re very unique..and whats better than a conservative Christian naming her daughters after two witches?
Mee-ooow! Sorry, I didn’t realize the website called “punkassblog” required us all to be sober young civilians, above taking a cheap shot. I know better know, and from here out my comments will only be about congressional earmarks and voting records.
Ah, “Mee-oow”? If you didn’t know that site required us all to be “sober young civilians” (it doesn’t), you should have known it requires you to not make sexist references (cat fight much)?
Ooh, I love it when you get the claws out, Antigone. Purrrrr.
By the way, if anybody felt like commenting on anything I actually wrote in the post, I would be pleasantly surprised.
Um, Bidden’s underwhelming anyway you slice it and Palin is, like every other Republican, a person who would sell her own son (and might be) to get elected?
The Democrats really do need to hire better image consultants. You have 30 seconds to exploit, I mean explain something; you can’t do it with subtle references and bullet point presentations.
And even I feel horrible even typing that: because I really want and (to some degree expect) Americans to be better/ smarter than the routinely are.
I hate Palin, she is the anti-Christ, she is all that is wrong with America rolled into one person. But, having some insight into the mobilization of Army units I think a little sanity check is in order. Some may think political parties are all powerful, but there is no way Track’s deployment was influenced by the GOP. It does “just happen” to be Sept 11th. His isn’t the only unit being deployed on that same day. As a matter of fact it is a breach of operational security that anyone knows when he is being deployed.

Sometimes it is just semantics. When a unit moves to a mobilization site even if the site is in the US it is called “deployed”. Sometimes the unit only moves to Kuwait and this is called “deployed”. It leaves a lot open to interpretation.
Thanks, the fact that all these proud proclamations about brave young Trent Palin could be considered a security leak is an interesting detail. Does the same criticism apply to the Dems and Beau Biden?
Of course Track’s unit wasn’t the only unit deployed today. But the timing is just so damn fishy. And the same goes for Beau Biden. You’re right, it could just be coincidence. But it’s human nature to find patterns even where they don’t exist, so forgive me this one time if I’m still suspicious.
