Protest Pregnancy Day ‘08: Pregnancy Kills Women!

What I care about is human life, and the ending of it that could be prevented, no matter how great or small that chance of the life ending might be. Lives, lives that would otherwise be in no danger at all, are being lost to pregnancy!
Like these folks, I am totally unconcerned about other people’s ideas that they have some right to “privacy” that trumps my right to stop them from entering into a situation where a human death might occur. I mean, really, what kind of moral leg do you have to stand on acting like “privacy” means you’re free to do things that might result in a living human being kicking the bucket?
You know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I am so in awe of the brilliance of this good organization that I am going to borrow their elegant and succinct “Talking Points” and make them my own, to promote my own worthy cause. With just the simple substitution of “pregnancy” for “the pill” and “women” for “unborn babies,” it seems to scan in almost seamlessly for this great endeavor! I’m sure they’re overjoyed to share with me here because, given their level of concern about deaths that might occur without you even knowing, their concern for deaths that are really obvious that you could not fail to notice occurring must be at least as great! (Any other attitude would be quite, quite illogical and even borderline psychotic, wouldn’t it?)
Let’s get started saving some lives!
The following are common questions about pregnancy. Feel free to use these answers if you are approached while protesting it.
Q: How does pregnancy work?
A: Pregnancy works in a woman’s body in one of three ways: the extreme metabolic, physical and psychological changes her entire body undergoes during the pregnancy do not result in life-threatening complications and the subsequent labor and delivery is also free of life-threatening complications, leaving her alive; the extreme metabolic, physical and psychological changes she undergoes during the pregnancy do not result in any complications but the subsequent labor and delivery cause her to die; or, the extreme metabolic, physical and psychological changes she undergoes during the pregnancy results in complications that cause her to die.
Q: How does pregnancy kill women?
A: This can happen when any of the following occurs during pregnancy, labor and/or delivery:ectopic pregnancy, prepartum hemorrhage, postpartum hemorrhage, abruptio placentae, placenta previa, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, gestational hypertension, hyperemesis gravidarum, malposition of the fetus, disproportion of the fetus, malpresentation of the fetus maternal abnormality of organs and soft tissues of pelvis, puerperal infection, and obstetrical pulmonary embolism.
Q: Why aren’t we better informed about the fact that pregnancy can kill women?
A: In 2004, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) issued a publication that not only showed that hundreds of women in the United States alone die every year due to pregnancy, the number of women dying has risen every year for the past three years before that! However, it is easy for “pregnancy crisis” clinics and other organizations such as National Right to Life to cover that up and only mention that on average, five women a year have died from abortion when in fact, the women had to be pregnant in the first place to even die of that. These organizations do not admit that pregnancy is not 100 percent safe because these organizations’ main focus is on making money.
Q: How do you know that a pregnant woman is really alive?
A: It is a proven, scientific fact that something is in fact alive when it fulfills the following characteristics: is made up of one or more cells, uses energy (which includes nutrition, excretion, respiration), grows and develops, reproduces, and responds to its surrounding (which includes movement and sensation).
Q: Is it OK to get pregnant for other health reasons?
A: Although getting pregnant may have some minor benefits, the fact that it can kill and/or cause harmful side effects for the woman outweighs its minor benefits. Because being pregnant weakens the immune system, it can cause bacterial infections and can make a woman more susceptible to the AIDS virus. It can also cause the following side effects: nausea and vomiting, tears in the cervix or vagina, hemorrhoids, constipation, hair loss, uncontrollable or accidental urination, pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, blood clots, having children with birth defects, stroke, weight gain and much more.
Q: Isn’t it better for some women to continue getting pregnant?
A: Better for whom? Pregnancy does not prevent you from getting a sexually transmitted disease, it is not 100 percent effective in ensuring you actually end up with a living, healthy child and you could conceive a child that miscarries before the baby’s presence is even known to you. Moreover, deliberately seeking out sexual activity can be seriously wrong.
Q: I’m for reducing the number of deaths, but is stopping women getting pregnant the only way to do that?
A: Stopping women getting pregnant would save the lives of over 500 women per year in the United States alone. Abstinence is always your best choice. It isn’t always easy, but it always works. By abstaining from sex, you eliminate the possibility of pregnancy and catching a sexually transmitted disease. What pregnancy has done for our society is turn healthy women into disposable objects. Dying from pregnancy should no longer be seen as a blessing, but a curse.
Q: The Supreme Court has ruled that it’s my right to privacy — who do you think you are to say otherwise?
A: We now know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that not only did the Supreme Court literally make up the right that you claim gives you permission to impregnate someone else but that impregnanted women can and do indeed die as a result of that impregnation. If there is a chance that human beings are going to be murdered, I am going to do everything in my power to help prevent that from happening. If you knew there was a chance that someone might poison your neighbor, don’t you think you would try to notify your neighbor and do as much as you could to help save a life?
Q: Is pregnancy dangerous to my health?
A: Absolutely! There are links between pregnancy and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), infertility, birth defects, blood clots, pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy, stroke, weight gain and much more.
Q: Why do Pro-Life groups say that pregnancy does not cause death?
A: National Right to Life and other organizations cover up the reality that pregnancy can, in fact, kill a girl or woman. They have a vested interest in lying to young women because they exploit them. Pro-life organizations brainwash young girls by telling them that pregnancy is the best thing for them, when the fact is that pregnancy can maim and kill you. Since 1982, $130 million dollars in federal tax money has gone to “crisis pregnancy” centers; one particular pregnancy crisis center received $700,000 in 2005 alone. Obviously, they make big money by lying to women.
Brilliant.
Lisa K, that was absolutely scary brilliant.
And, I just realized I’m posting comments on this blog so much, I’m probably driving some potential commenters away because they’re afraid of the stalker. So, see you later for now. I’m off to try to get a life.
Although getting pregnant may have some minor benefits
- I remember reading an awesome Guardian Sports article a couple of years ago (right after Paula Radcliffe’s triumphant return) about how pregnancy can be beneficial to female athletes. It makes sense that evolution would have caused pregnant and nursing women become tough as nails, really.
Awesome.
Win.
