Free choice
Published by Antigone April 19th, 2008 in Punkass!Having never had an audience that was actually progressive, I’m not sure what I should write about this weekend. There are three things that are floating around in my mind, so I’m going to leave it up to the audience to vote on what I should blog about.
1) The Business of Being Born I just finished watching a documentary about the medicalization of childbirth, and it’s results on women and babies.
2) The International Convention on the Rights of the Child. The United States is only one of two countries not to sign on to this (the other being Somalia). I’ll blog about what they are, and why people in the US oppose signing on to them.
3) The lack of liberal bias in the media. I am currently writing a paper on the supposed liberal bias in the media for a Communication class.
Vote early.
I am not sure if here is where I vote? 1, please?
I vote subject #1! I’m working on a paper on a related/integrated topic; it might be helpful and interesting to hear another’s thoughts about it.
Not that I’d be disappointed with either alternative, though.
#3, #3!!
Just to complicate things (well, actually because i’m interested), i vote #2. but they all sound good.
I pick #2 simply because it’s the only one I’ve never read a blog post about before. They all sound lovely though, and I hope you eventually get around to them all.
I’m lagging, dammit.
Delurking briefly to vote for option #1. Yay history of science!
im a media junkie, so i say #3!!
You guys, that means it’s at a perfect three-way tie! I’ll let the voting continue until 10 o’clock tonight, and then I’m writing whatever’s a head then.
Ignotus-
You may wish to change your vote…the movie (and I) are fairly critical of medicalization.
#1 sounds interesting
Can I vote for #3 again?
I’m all over #3
All of the above, if not all necessarily tonight, because I haven’t been that good a girl, and therefore do not deserve that much awesome.
Why would I want to change my vote? I like (and study) the history of science and medicine because it’s interesting, not because I think that professionalization and medicalization are unqualified goods. And there’s plenty of fascinating stuff surrounding the medicalization of childbirth in particular (e.g. twilight sleep), so I’m curious to hear about the film.
Unfortunately, by my count you’ve still got a voting tie… Man are we internet people unhelpful.
She’s just gonna have to do them ALL.
