For proof that Charlotte Allen is freaking hilarious and the rest of us are humorless harpies who can’t handle the truth, look no further than this response in her defensive Q-and-A about her catastrophic failure of a WaPo opinion article.

Woodbridge, Va.: Congratulations on a hilarious article. Do you think the hysterical response to it provides further proof that feminists have no sense of humor?

Charlotte Allen: Is the pope German?

Ba-dum-bun - shriiinnng! It’s funny because when is the pope NOT German? Get it? Finally, someone updated that hoary old “is the pope Catholic?” into something a little more relevant to today’s society, where everyone has the birthplace of the current pope at the front of their mind.

Anyway, let me sum up the forum for you so you don’t have to swim through the whole thing: It was a joke! But it was all true! Feminists are mean! But lalalalala I can’t see sexism so it doesn’t exist I am not list-en-innnngggggg!!!!!

What if we claim that the angry letters to the Washington Post were just jokes, too?

I’m pretty sure Ms. Allen sent that “question” to herself.

Yeah, that one was my favorite. I pictured it with the typical shrug and outstretched hands in a Frank Nelson sort of inquiry.

    “Is the Poohhpe Geeeeerman?”

    From the article:

West Lafayette, Ind.: Your idea of fun is to paint a (horribly inaccurate) picture of your sex as stupid?

Charlotte Allen: How about an accurate picture?

What happened to the whole satire thing again?

    Not satire, just plain humour:
I’m not sure whether I’d characterize the piece as satire, but I’d certainly characterize it as humor: my poking fun at the dumb things my sex does.

For a supposed humour writer, she sure takes criticism damned personally.

Not plain humour either, but “humor with a serious point”. I’m kind of wondering where the humor is. Where is all that fun she says she’s poking?

She says the article isn’t offensive because it was meant to be humorous. So those sexist statements? Not sexist: funny. But she herself takes those statements seriously. She proves and enlarges on some of them, and if someone agrees with the points she’s made she seems gratified and delighted. That doesn’t much look like she was merely joking around?

I know too little of her to be certain. But it reminds me of those people who say offensive things, and they expect people to agree with them and laugh, because, y’know, the subject itself is inherently funny and/or ridiculous. And then when people take the humourist by the lapels, he’s all “sheesh, can’t you take a joke??”

Perhaps Charlotte and Vox Day could team up to call women stupid. It would be nicer if it was all in one place, then, everyday i could read about how incompetent I am. Here’s Mr. Beale’s opinion of women in science. Very enlightened. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=58449
