Famous Mii
Published by punkass marc December 20th, 2006 in Celebrity, Entertainment, Wii!Ain’t seen much of me lately, have you?
That’s probably because I got myself a Wii.

I’m sure you’ve heard people rave about this thing before, but seriously, it’s the most fun I’ve had since I learned to masturbate.
The addictive games that come with the system, like tennis and bowling, provide hours of entertainment, but a big part of what makes them special is the character you play with, a.k.a. your mii. Which is you. The creation of personal avatars, many of which can be made to look an awful lot like their creators, really enhances the gaming experience.
Of course, you don’t have to make mii = you. You can make a mii of anyone. Daumen, a mad genius and friendly associate of mine, recently discovered the celebrity mii contest, and the winners are charming. While a Zach Braff look-a-like collected first prize, these are the entries I enjoyed the most:

I’ll make you an avatar you can’t refuse.

Fucking Laura Bush.
And, just because Amanda would never forgive me if I didn’t include him, let us not overlook the mighty Klaus Nomi:

While I’m having a hootin’ an’ hollerin’ good time, I promise I’ll do a better job of dragging myself away from the Wii and over to my other eyeball-rotting screen, the one where my blog lives. Just as soon as I complete the Michael Jackson Mii tutorial.
That Zach Braff one is a thing of beauty, though.
Especially because it’s telling him to quit.
Having tried the controls at a local electronics emporium, I’m actually expecting someone to come out with a simulator.
Or maybe it’ll be an aspect of the next Sims installment.
Marc, that Condi “Mii” is really scary…
Marc - Question:
My daughter wants to get a Wii and I’ve been sceptical after the last few Nintendo stumbles. Is it really worth getting?…
Thanks!
Mike — I hear the Playstation 3 is comparable
Anyway, Nintendo sometimes makes crappy games, but at least they catch fire less than Sony products. And if the latest gaming magazines aren’t completely in Nintendo’s pocket, then the new Zelda game alone justifies getting the console.
Kyso, the new Zelda is one of the main reasons she wants it (plus it’s cheaper than PS3 and XBox 360…)
I have to admit that I’ve enjoyed many hours on “original” Nintendo and Super Nintendo (I keep both around still - me and my daughter still love certain old games…). But since Final Fantasy moved to PlayStation, it’s been a lot easier to ignore Nintendo. Nintendo 64 just couldn’t compete…
Ahhhh! Final Fantasy! Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
Sorry, it’s just that if I ever break up with my boyfriend, I will lay the blame entirely on FFXI. That game steals peoples souls.
MikeEss,
I meant what I said about how fun the Wii is. Its simplicity combines with a taste of experiential VR to blow your frigging mind.
While it may cause people to throw up all over themselves in disgust, I must confess to also owning a PS3. I love it, as well, but for entirely different reasons, and I can’t see why a kid would give a f*** about high-def first person shooters on the PS3 when they can swordfight like it’s the real thing on the Wii.
If I had to choose just one (or if I weren’t a grossly irresponsible consumer of gadgetry), it would be the Wii, hands down.
My daughter loves FF3 (on SNES - it was called FFVI outside the US) so much she still plays it on a regular basis. I was playing it at certain key times while she was growing up, and memories of certain parts are seared into her brain…
She has a special (if morbid) fixation on the sequence when the Cyan, sword-master, has his family poisoned by the evil Kefka. Their spirits leave him on the Ghost Train.
She was 3 or 4 when she saw that and it really made a big impression on her. It was her first introduction to death…
Many fond memories…
Marc, thanks for the recommendation. I will definitely look into it…
I need to understand how you play the older games that are supposed to be available for Wii…
Marc, is that really a Condi Mii, or is that the Big Boss of a level of Final Fantasy - Washington DC?…
Isn’t saying “should I buy a Wii or a PS3?” kind of like saying “should I buy this house, or this used car?”
Budget-wise, that is.
I think you use either the wii classic controller or a gamecube controller? But then again, I don;t have a wii, I just want one.
Yeah, supposedly you can hook up gamecube controller, though i dont see how yet, and also there is a “classic controller” you can get to hook to your remote and play the old school games.
Yes.
There’s a panel on the top (or side, depending on how you place it). Has GC controller and memory card ports.
I was skeptical of this console, especially after the name change. But, well, Zelda. And I buy nearly all consoles. But the damn thing is a blast, and well worth the purchase.
