You know, i am on the opposite side of this deal. i’m the hated guy that calls you to collect payments you owe. So, i see it from both sides. Granted, paying your bills late looks bad, & you will always have an extra fee or something else added what you owe, as frustrating as that is, there’s no reason to jump down someone’s throat & call them names or insult them because you haven’t held up on your end of the deal, which is “PAY YOUR BILL.”

So don’t be angry with the person delivering that message to you. They are much less likely to even wanna continue talking to you, or to help you at all if you act out towards them. Don’t bother with the “I have always paid my bill on time” argument, because truthfully, that’s what you agreed to do when you signed on for said service in the first place.

Do not say “I have been a customer with you for 10 years…” because you never get it right do you? No, you don’t… then you sound like you’re telling tall tales, you lose credibility, because we know how long you’ve had your service, usually we’re looking at your record if we’re talking to you.

The bottom line is, you can avoid these troubles entirely if you simply PAY YOUR BILLS, & thus, i will not be obliged to send some large men to your home to break your legs. i’m kidding… it’s not worth breaking anyone’s legs.

Please, everyone, listen to number 8a. I can personally attest that anyone you’re speaking with to call and complain about any service most likely hates that company a billion times more than you do and would most likely sympathize greatly if you treat them nicely.

God, I’m so glad I quit that call center job…

I wish I’d had this information when I was in my last bill-juggling stage. Instead I used the less sophisticated “rent – utility – credit card – cable” ladder, and the end result of that is so many late payments on my credit cards that my interest rates are like 30% in some cases. Those ones now sit quietly unused in the wallet, waiting to be canceled.

Luckily I make more now, so I can clean this up and negotiate lower rates or cancel the cards entirely and get new ones, but if I was still making what I was making last year, the situation would be hopeless.
