when the status quo frustrates.

Conservative media sez, thank god we don’t have to lie to you anymore!

From Ace of Spades, we get the following quote from Rush Limbaugh:

‘I FEEL LIBERATED… I NO LONGER HAVE TO CARRY THE WATER FOR PEOPLE WHO DON’T DESERVE IT’…

Carry the water? I know Rush lives in Fantasia, and he vaguely reminds people of a rat, but he’s hardly a wizard apprentice. Why does he feel like he has to carry the water for people who don’t deserve it? Last I checked, he was a pundit. A racist hatemonger of a pundit, but still a pundit. No one was telling him what to say (other than the pills), so I don’t believe anyone was requiring him to “carry the water.”

Instead, Rush just admitted he’s been lying to his millions of listeners. By choice. All that vigorous defense of the party and its Congressional leaders has been fraudulent. He didn’t really believe in those jerkoffs at all, but he didn’t admit it until today. After this confession, how could any listener trust him again?

Maybe the admission is the lie. Maybe he still wants to tickle Santorum’s sack while Allen fingers his anus, but he has to act like he dumped them so he can save face with his frat brothers. Even if that’s the case, though, it only means he’s lying now instead of before.

To me, it sounds like Rush is experiencing genuine relief. It was shared by Ace, who added:

Ain’t that the truth.

Hugh Hewitt was right there with them:

The fact is, we thought our country would be better off with a Republican congress. We made a case to the American people. They didn’t buy it because they thought it was a weak case.

And you know what? They were right. In the closing weeks of the campaign season, I felt like I was a lawyer who had a bad client while writing this blog. That client was the Republican Party which had broken its Contract with America from 1994 and had become unmoored from its conservative principles.

If I’m not mistaken, that’s also 2 conservative bloggers who admitted they didn’t really believe the manure they’d been slinging about the glory of the Refuckuplican Congress. So, uh, why were they slinging it?

There are plenty of party hacks for the Democrats, but can you imagine any of them expressing genuine relief that they lost? They wouldn’t, because they really believe their own BS. The conservatives, however, confess that they know they’ve been shilling for cobags who’ve led the country astray.

If I ever read a blog or listened to a pundit who admitted their previous commentary was a fabrication, that they didn’t believe what they’d been saying, I’d never sniff their hot air again.

Maybe being a conservative involves telling each other lies to convince yourselves you live in a world neither of you actually believe is real. [The president's sure good at it.] When one of the lies crumbles, though, you feel relieved not to have to continue the taxing charade.

Maybe wingnuts would be a lot happier if they just stopped lying to themselves and others and started saying what they really feel. They might’ve saved this country a lot of headache, heartache, and body bags.

Whatever. If Limbaugh actually said that, I’d still have the same opinion of him I had yesterday: all of those pundits were just saying the shit they knew would keep the ratings high, the hits coming or the books selling. Yesterday was concrete evidence that maybe there won’t be a much of a market for spittle-flecked radio broadcasts or poorly written books and blogs peddling unfocused, incoherent rage anymore. Anyone who comes crawling back to civil discourse whimpering that Karl Rove held a fuckin’ gun to their head and forced them to faithfully repeat insane talking points that just happened to make them so famous and sometimes even rich – anyone who recants now is just testing the new waters and hoping that there’ll be some scraps of fame and radio time left after the talking point faxes stop coming and before complete and utter irrelevence overtakes them.

Frankly we should charge them for the time it’s going to take to scrape the shit they were peddling out of the public discourse.

Ms Malkin, buh-by.e Charles Johnson, Buh-bye now. Uh huh, buh-bye. Anne Coulter, buh-bye. Hey what did you guys think of that…oh wait, no one cares anymore. Buh-bye now.

If all this goes according to history, this will end with the final, fatal drink of Kool-Aid.

Somebody will drive into some piss-ant town in the middle of nowhere and the bodies of the followers will be everywhere. Easier to die than believe you were wrong…

They’ll miss it. They’ll come around.

If Limbaugh can be exposed as a drug abuser and they still listen, it’s hard to believe that admitting he knowingly lied to them on behalf of the Reichwing will slow them down.

Besides, those idiots have to listen to something…

  5. MikeEss says:

I get the feeling that many of the listeners/readers of these Reichwing pundits almost want to be lied to.

It all connects back into the “authoritarian cultist” mindset. I don’t think it’s odd that many of them are also hard-right religoids (for similar reasons)…

(I’m sorry to admit my dad is one of the talkradio zombies. Sad…)

  6. [...] Conservative media sez, thank god we don’t have to lie to you anymore! You realize this changes nothing. They’ll lie just as they always have, bloviate just as they always have, race-bait and gay-bash, nothing changes. (tags: culture values politics) [...]

Oh I wish you were right .. but I think you’ll find they redouble their venom and spittle, now that they have targets with actual power, to lie about.

No, I see it as these wingnuts see themselves as infallible. They feel they are NEVER wrong, thus they didn’t “lose” any election. They were freed from “bad” republicans, so they really “won”.

Of course, if the election were different, they would be talking about how they have been shoveling the truth all along… and they would love these crazy republicans in congress.

I think the humor is how they will contort their logic to try to look right.

Now on the question about if they know what they shovel are lies or not, well I think they sold their souls so long ago that they just can’t tell anymore.

Well, they’ve been told a lot of wonderful lies that make them out to be heros; why wouldn’t they want that to continue? Why would they want to give up the struggle against the evil liberals who just don’t understand that those Ay-rabs want to murder us all and conquer the world? Why would then want to give up on the heroic struggle against the evil baby killers? Why would they think it’s okay to let those awful liberals tax us all to death and then tax us afterwards?

As long as there are enough people who profit enough by speaking hatefully, there will be plenty of hate going around, and while there’s plenty of hate going around, there’ll be plenty of people who profit by it.

    You called it, MikeEss.

I believe it’s related to the same character flaw that causes the male variety to prefer female submission to arousal in the bedroom.

“Oh, baby, make me feel big by faking it one more time!”

  11. JD says:

The pundits lied to their audience, and Bush lied to the Republican candidates when he pledged to keep Rumsfeld no matter what. If they’d been honest, if Bush had sacked Rumsfeld like he was considering anyway, only in advance, they could have fought this election to at least a draw.

It all amounts to massive self-sabotage. And what does self-sabotage indicate?

    Self-loathing.

  12. snakefing says:

Well, what it comes down to is that Rush knows (from his own experience) that his listeners don’t prefer the Republicans so much as they loathe the Democrats. Empowered women, brown people … it’s all too much.

Now the bad guys are in charge, he can go back to just bad-mouthing them.

  13. Willie says:

haha….right on. People just keep believing Rush because thats what they want to believe. With many people credibility doesn’t seem to hold much water these days.
