Denise’s Grooms for Life proposal is still bringing the wrath of the MWD reader upon her.
Commenter ninderthana, however, has no time for debate. He’s drawn a line in the sand and dares us to cross it.
…If you want to have a lower number of abortion then either give back 50 % of all sexual and reproductive power to men or have it forcefully taken from you by the development of the artificial womb.
It is time for change or history will sweep you away.
I fear that the feminist conspiracy will not take this threat seriously. I, for one, recommend complete surrender to the patriarchy before men get a hold of the artificial womb and start creating then aborting, adopting out or rearing children in previously unheard of numbers.
The next thing you know, they’ve outbred women, keeping only boys, and women are obsolete like VHS or rotary phones. Ladies, they’ve won. We never had a chance.
Very nice, a threat to half of humanity on behalf of a handful of men no one wants to screw anyway.
However, “Artificial Womb” would be a great name for a rock band.
The Artificial Womb EP:
1. Dismembered Fantasy Girl
2. Lube
3. Good Vibrations (cover)
4. Paper Doll
5. Robot Love
Of course, I just got a squicky idea: this guy would probably put his artificial womb in a Real Doll. Eww! Eww! Now I have to wash my brain out with lye soap….
[...] Kyso has posted commentary at punkassblog here about what great satire this would make…if only the auther weren’t serious. Also see this, about the idea that men somehow have no say in reproductive issues. [...]
More and more I’m convinced that Freud came up with penis envy to distract from the reality of womb envy. So fucking weird.
The attempts to take back the uterus by force have been thwarted again:

What about “Lola”?
Girls will be boys and boys will be girls
And really, who’s opposed to an artificial womb? I saw what pregnancy did to my (now ex-) wife; if women had the choice to forego the massive inconvenience of pregnancy (not to mention the life-threatening aspects of it), what percent would choose to? 75%? Or more?
The only downside to the artificial womb is that some of these guys would be able to breed. But no worry; Child Protective Services will take care of the kids soon enough.
Aww, Jeff, now that you’ve said that out loud they’re going to have to halt all research and find a new way to even out the reproductive score.
[...] I guess feminists loose. You know, because men are going to take over having and raising kids. We won’t need women at all after that. Or something. [...]
Oh man, bring on the artificial womb! All we’ll have to do is donate our eggs, ladies. No stretch marks, no morning sickness, no labor, no post labor recovery, no postpartum depression. I have no strong desire to personally experience pregnancy, and I’ve heard tons of horror stories from friends. The artificial womb is the womb for me!
Yea I think Freud DID come up with the “penis-envy” theory as just a distration from womb envy. The reality of women wanting an actual penis is about as realistic as men wanting breasts, they are mere organs. But womb envy isn’t about the organ but about women being able to do something exclusive and obviously essential to the human race. Men, men who are sexist I should say, try to limit women from doing things because they too want that exclusivity, which backfires against them because discrimination is immoral. Women were given this power through nature, which drives insecure men crazy apparently. Secure men don’t care and honor birth openly. Insecure men, religious men, etc. try to find different ways to distract from the awesome power of life-giving and birth when they should just give in to it. It’s obvious through various means that a number of men feel inferior to women because women give birth, although few will admit. They try to control women’s bodies through abortion or find ways to try to honor men (wars, sports, etc.) but nothing seems to measure up. They should just give in.
No artificial womb for me! Yes pregnancy can be hard but the reward is a PERSON! It’s the most profound achievement ever! I love the idea that I sacrificed to give life. Besdies, I want to say I brought you into this world and I can take you out! Women don’t realize the power we have in birth! Patriarchy teaches us to put ourselves down. If men gave birth they would be parading their stretchmarks, having ceremonies, bragging about what they went through to bring a new life into the world. If it were reversed they would never put themselves down.
I do think the others were RIGHT on about the womb envy thing. Most men won’t ever admit it but we do something that is exclusviely female that is powerful, obviously necessary, pure and spiritual and men don’t have something equal to it. Some men want us to hate ourselves when pregnant and put ourselves down. Enjoy pregnancy. It does go by fast and many women I know miss being pregnant. Men have emotionally abused women for centuries, and making us feel bad about ourselves when pregnant is just another way. We should be proud. How many statues do we have honoring men for killing vs. women for continuing the human race! They are proud when they shed blood and they imitate our sacrifice. But they can’t – we do it naturally. We can ease morning sickness and eliminate stretchmarks but we should be proud anyway of what we endure. We make people!
Takes all kinds.
If it is so hard for women to give birth then why didn’t a woman invented the artificial womb? That’s because I don’t think any women would even think it is possible. I don’t think someone created an artificial womb because of envy. I just think that someone has the courage to think that it is possible and it can be benificial. Who would really want to experience all the birth pains.
I don´t get it. What´s so wrong about the AW? If some men are envious about women´s power give them an AW and they shut up, they don´t have to give in as Karen said because it is a big deal and you have to be a truly uncaring father to don´t mind being left out during such an important moment of your children (believe me, it´s not every baby that even cares about the father during the first one or two or even more months and it´s very depressing).A dose of womb envy is essential because this shows that the guy does think the mother did something very important. The problem is: Men are considered ,and always were, worthless and disposable in the process by society and it is what is making them “crazy apparently” bvecause this cause an overdose of womb envy, the cure for it is clear, isn´t it? I myself felt it, but just the prospect that science would “make things even” in the future made me feel much better and put the WE in the right dose. If a woman doesn´t want to be pregnant to have a slim body and clear of stretches or stop their careers but want kids all she has to do is use the AW. She can even require the husband to use mamary glands too (they´re just like muscles, the same for both sexes, but more stimulated in one due to different hormones). If you think it´s unnatural, don´t use it, simple as that. About the possible implications in the psychological development of the child you have to admit that it´s unclear if it will be bad (maybe all the sounds and feelings provided by the mother could be automated and even include other people in the process making the AW superior to the natural one) or worse than the natural womb (discovering that you can´t be pregnant and you´re a nothing or way less important and a bit disposable in the process of life-creating birth truly fucks the emotional development of many men and most of you probably haven´t thought of that.)
Mammary glands are just like muscles?
I love how he’s already defending the therapeutic qualities artificial wombs can bring to men. This, despite the fact that we’re nowhere near developing them, and probably won’t be within our lifetimes. (But let’s not let reality get in the way.)
Also, people seem to think we’re against the idea of artificial wombs, as opposed to just finding it hilarious that a guy would hold them against us as some sort of threat.
I was starting to feel bad about my lack of blogging, but if people are still combing the archives, I guess I can take another week off.
“Mammary glands are just like muscles? ”
In the sense that what makes them different between the sexes is purely hormonal
Oh.
