Little help, here

So last Thursday, for the first time ever to my knowledge, I semi-voluntarily wore a skirt all day. You see, I own maybe four pairs of pants that border on being acceptable to wear to work. Two of them require safety pins to keep the zippers up. Both pairs were sans safety pin last week, and my box of pins was (and still is) missing. The other pants had already been worn, and since it was freakishly hot and humid last week, I didn’t want to wear either of them again. So I found this wrap skirt that I bought God only knows when and for what reason, and put it on.

It was suprisingly nice, almost like wearing pants but better. I could see making a long skirt my official 80%+ humidity costume. And I wore it quite successfully all day, except for towards the end when the tie came undone and the skirt began fluttering towards the ground. Thank god no one was around, and I managed to make it through administration, past the engineers, and into the bathroom to re-tie.

So clearly, I did something wrong. Any readers know anything about the wrapping and tying of wrap-style skirts? Care to share some tips?

I only wear skirts in hot weather. They’re pleasantly breezy even with the humidity we have. Seems yours wasn’t so pleasantly breezy, though. ;) If the ties are fabric extended from the skirt, there isn’t much you can do, but if they are actual ties, just tie them a square knot. In either case, if you’re feeling crafty, sew a snap (or button & buttonhole) where the ties are. That’ll keep it closed just in case, and reduce stress on the ties so they’re less likely to come undone in the first place.

I’d highly recommend a stretch jersey skirt if you are inclined to add another skirt to your wardrobe. No zippers, no strain, just pull it on and go. Brilliant.

If you tuck the ends in after tying it won’t catch on anything and come undone.

if you’re feeling too lazy to be crafty, just tie it and then stick a safety pin through the tie from inside the skirt. you can always tell yourself you’ll put a snap in later :)
